Home (Away From Home) Sweet Home

We got up at 5:30 in the morning Friday, July 1st, to set out for our trip to Brussels. After a tiring three-legged plane journey, starting at 9:30 that morning in Pocatello, we arrived in Brussels at 8:30 Saturday morning. A private shuttle had been arranged to meet us at the airport and take us the the ON Semiconductor plant in Oudenaarde where two rental cars were waiting for us. Then a quick trip to the Hotel DeRantere to check in and get keys followed by being led the two miles or so out of town to our apartments. We unpacked a little and then crashed for a couple of hours before driving back to town for dinner and then to a grocery store to get us started. While there are many conveniences of home that we miss, the apartments are nice and fairly well furnished. It will take a few days to work out all the wrinkles.

On Sunday we slept in until after ten o'clock after waking up at 4 AM while trying to adjust to the time change. In the afternoon we took a trip into town with Laurene driving to help her find her way back to the grocery store and to the ON Semiconductor plant. With the very narrow streets, unfamiliar street signs and impatient drivers it was indeed an adventure but we make it home unscathed. After a brief chat it was time to turn in so Dad and Dave can get a nights rest before their first day back on the job.
