Begin Cruise and St. Thomas

Sat Feb 5
This was a long day with little sleep as we took the red-eye flight from Phoenix to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The flight left Phoenix at 1:10AM and we got into San Juan at about 1:30PM where they were 3 hours ahead of Arizona time. After a shuttle to the ship we went through security and got to our room. At dinner we got together with Lance and Aubri, Laurie and Evan and Lindsy and Ben. Bedtime was very welcome soon after dinner.

After Sacrament Meeting
Coki Beach
Vladimir and William
Our first stop was at St. Thomas. The islands of St. Thomas and St. Croix we visited were under Danish rule until 1917 when they were purchased by the United States along with some 48 other islands and cays that make up the US Virgin Islands. On these and all Caribbean islands we visited driving is on the left. Roads are very narrow and winding with sharp curves and steep climbs and descents. All islands we visited were tropical with dense vegetation, friendly natives, old-world charm and beautiful weather. This morning we went to sacrament meeting at the local branch in Charlotte Amalie. We and all the family then went to Coki Beach to spend the afternoon sun bathing, snorkeling and swimming in the warm Caribbean waters on this beautiful white-sand beach. There were many colorful tropical fish and a coral reef to enjoy. That evening was a formal night where we met our memorable waiter, William and his assistant Vladimir.
